Welcome to the Observatory on Inequality in Latin America, funded by a three-year grant from the Ford Foundation (2007-2009).

The goal of this project has been to foster attention and research on social and economic inequalities in Latin America, and their effects on society and politics. The centerpiece of this project is this web portal, as a source for information and studies on inequality in the region, as well as an avenue for interaction among scholars, practitioners, activists and policy-makers.

With this Observatory, we seek to foster an inter-disciplinary and global community of individuals who want to create more equitable societies in Latin America. We have a working paper series on inequality on our portal, and have funded research on inequality in the form of small grants. See the link to working papers and to small grants for more information.

While we are no longer able to fund small grants, we are committed to maintaining the web portal as a resource for scholars and practitioners.  Please contact Dr. Merike Blofield, the Director of the Observatory  (m.blofield@miami.edu) or Drew Cooper, the Administrator, (observatoryla@miami.edu) for more information.
